The Best Outdoor Drinking Spots in Sydney
Thursday, October 16, 2014
The mercury has already touched 30 degrees so far this spring and if that doesn’t make you want to sit outside, surrounded by your mates with a cold cocktail in hand then I don’t know what will!
With summer on its way, it is time to talk about the best places to enjoy a beer in the sun. Whether it is a rooftop bar or on the harbourside, a good old fashioned beer garden or a great drinking courtyard - summertime wouldn’t be the same with a little outside libation!
The Rooftop - Glenmore Hotel, The Rocks
An absolute classic with a stonker of a view the rooftop bar at The Glenmore Hotel is constantly busy.
With it’s perfect location in The Rocks, you can gaze out over the harbour with a great view of the iconic Sydney Opera House while tucking into great pub food and a selection of great drinks.
Try and get there before the work crowd descends as it gets seriously busy. The atmosphere is always charming though as the hum of after work drinks is infectious! Still a great spot for a weekend drink, the Glenmore is a great start for a little pub crawl of The Rocks!
The Icon - Opera Bar, CBD
The most famous and most idyllic of any outdoor bar in Australia, nothing compares to Opera Bar. Sure, it may be a little over-priced but for the view you get propped up at this Circular Quay icon is more than worth it!
Crammed with both tourists and locals looking for an after work tipple, Opera Bar is always busy! Hunting out a table is one of the finest people-watching spectacles you’ll see anywhere in world - people side-eye the competition and dive for an open spot like their lives depend on it.
Once you get yourself a spot, enjoy it! Grab a drink and a bite and watch the world go by as the sun gleams overhead. A sunset at Opera Bar is like an advert for why Sydney is one of the most amazing cities in the world.
The Beachside - The Bucket List, Bondi
Another ‘only in Australia’ bar, The Bucket List is a beach bar like no other. Smack, bang in the middle of Bondi Beach with unbeatable views of the ocean (and the beautiful bodies of Bondi) The Bucket List is a must try.
Another great location for a people watch, on a sunny day there is no better place than The Bucket List.
Grab some fish and chips and a couple of cold drinks and you’ve got a match made in heaven! Need to cool off a little bit more? Take the 100 metre stroll and jump in the refreshing ocean at Bondi Beach!
The Trendy - The Tilbury, Woolloomooloo
Nestled away in the lovely suburb of Woolloomooloo (is that the best name of any town/city/suburb in the world?), The Tilbury is a lovely little pub with a touch of class.
A great courtyard and roof terrace give you the best of the sunshine, while a well stocked bar and brilliant selection of food cover the refreshments.
Ideally located near Woolloomooloo Wharf, and its exclusive restaurants, go for broke one weekend and head to The Tilbury for some drinks before popping along the wharf for a day with the upper set!
The Old School - The Courthouse, Newtown
This is a real Aussie pub that’s been taken over by the hipster crowd of Newtown.
The Courthouse is a local gem, the pub itself is covered with AFL posters from years ago and the bar has a great selection of local craft beers and some of the best pub grub in Sydney!
Every time you go to The Courthouse, any time of day, any day of the week, it’s busy! If you are lucky enough to grab yourself a table in the courtyard then you’ve hit gold! The food is great with huge portions and their is entertainment every night through the week.
The Courthouse is an Inner West institution and perfect for that Australian favourite - the Sunday session!
